Some notes on 2 Cor. 4:8-9

 (2Co 4:8)  We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

This verse goes right along with v.9.

(2Co 4:9)  Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

Both of these verses tie into and are true because of v.7.

We are troubled, perplexed, persecuted, and cast down but because we believe the gospel we are not distressed, in despair, forsaken, or destroyed.

They can kill the body but our souls are safe in Christ!

This is the ultimate truth of the Gospel.

This is why we do not fear man who can kill the body because this body is going to decay and die anyways.

When we trust in Christ we have eternal life in Him. Though we perish here on Earth we have an eternity wrapped up in Him.

This is the great truth of Union with Christ!

When God saved us and placed us in Christ we are IN Him forever! We are called, justified, sanctified, and adopted into Christ!

We are part of the family of God for all of eternity.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus. (Rom. 8:39)

Not trouble, not perplexity, not persecution, not being cast down, not death, not life, not angels, not principalities, not powers, not things present, not things to come, not height, not depth, not any other creature can separate us if we are in Christ!

This is the excellency of the power of God that’s not in us. V.7

See if we are to go through anything I just mentioned and look within us we won’t find anything to help us.

However if when we are going through this stuff and we look to Christ we find hope and rest!

Only when we look to the One who was slain for our sins and rose victorious over the grave can we be not distress, in despair, not forsake, and destroyed!
